GIMP Tools

A)Selecting tools:
Gimp has 3 selecting tools, the square, the circle, and the lasso
This is the circle tool. You can select any size circle and re adjust the sides
This is the square tool. You can select any size circle and re adjust the sides as well.
the next two pictures are the lasso tool. you can select and make any sort of shape by clicking where you want the next line to go.
B)Stroke:
Using stoke you van create boarders around the selecting tool.
you can make adjust the thickness and pattern

C)Paste into
Here I copied the image that I was using then pasted it into a selected area. I used the circle, the square and the lasso tool to pick the areas I wanted the picture to be pasted into. I could then adjust what part of the picture I wanted to be shown but moving the pasted picture around.

D)Transparency

I adjusted the transparency of each of the layers that I put in my image. I did this by sliding the opacity bar that is in the layers bar.

E)text
I added 5 different texts to the picture. Each text has different levels of transparency as well as different fonts and colors. Again I used the opacity sliding bar on the layers tools section.

F) scale
I scaled the pictures down one with aspect intact and one without aspect.I scaled the first picture down 50% on both height and width and the second one I just changed the height.

Virtual Reality

The Immersive education conference is a conference where many experts address the development and effects of new technologies. Immersion 2015 will be held in Paris, France. The dates and venues for Immersion 2015 are not yet determined but will be announced in March. You can learn more here at http://summit.immersiveeducation.org. Virtual Reality will be one of the forms of immersive education technologies covered at the conference.

Virtual Reality is a computer simulated environment. Virtual reality can recreate real environments or create imagined worlds. In order to become immersed into these worlds, virtual reality devices must recreate the sensory experiences. Virtual reality can be used for many different purposes for example gaming, entertainment, education, and on the job training.

Virtual reality uses head mounted screens in order to immerse the user into another world. The leader in this technology is Oculous Rift. This company has created headsets that track motion giving the user a 110 degree view of their virtual reality environment. The headset also includes special headphones the users can hear sounds in a 3D space.

Sony has recently launched Project Morpheus, a virtual reality headset for the PS4 gaming system. This new product could change the world of gaming. The PlayStation Camera will track movement of the headset and will give the user a 100 degree field of vision. The Sony has promised to release it by 2016. You can watch the demo of Project Morpheus in this video:

The PS4 already has the capability to handle the virtual reality games, so the users will not have to buy a new system for virtual reality use. The headset will also come with a box that will connect to the PS4, which will help process most of the Project Morpheus specific operations. The users TV screen will also be able show what the user is experiencing, allowing other to see what they are doing.

Virtual reality is also being used in military training. Virtual reality allows soldier to train in dangerous situations in a controlled environment. Some of these simulations include flight simulation, battlefield simulation, and virtual boot camp. This type of virtual training provides our soldiers with more experience before they enter battle.

Virtual reality is going to be the future of gaming. However, virtual reality is still being perfected. There are still many software and user kinks that need to be fine tuned before being released to the market. You can learn more about Virtual reality at Immersion 2015.

Holograms

The Immersive education conference is a conference where many experts address the development and effects of new technologies. Immersion 2015 will be held in Paris, France. The dates and venues for Immersion 2015 are not yet determined but will be announced in March. You can learn more here at http://summit.immersiveeducation.org. Holograms will be one of the forms of immersive education technologies covered at the conference.

Holograms use holography to create a 3D image, usually on a 2D surface. Holograms are used today on drivers licenses and credit cards. These images can be tilted making the image change as the view position changes. This is called a still hologram. When most people picture the future of holograms, we picture moving projected 3D holograms which were featured in the star wars movies. This is a projected image that is 3 dimensional and the image stays the same  even when the views orientation changes.

This type of hologram has yet to be created, moving holograms are very difficult to create. To create a hologram an object's image is captured using a laser. This laser is spit in two and uses one laser as a reference beam and the other to capture the image of the object. You can see how it is done in this video:

3D holograms have great potential. They could be used in movies, in place of the 3D movies we have today. They could also be used to send a message or sit in on meeting. They could even be used to recreate a concert. At the 2012 Coachella, Tupac, a rapper who had been deceased since 1996, was recreated and preformed as a "hologram".

Although the image appeared to be a hologram, turned out not to be a true hologram. The image shown was actually a mirrored projection. However, this performance
showed what the future of holograms could offer. People could actually witness their idols perform on stage even when the are deceases.

Hologram technologies are still in development and companies are realizing that holograms are the future. This year, Microsoft has release their new hologram technology, the HoloLens. The HoloLens is similar to Google Glass because it is a wearable headset that has the capabilities of a computer. However, the Hololens will be equipped with a holographic processing unit.

This product will layer interactive holographic images using the headset. The holographic images will be projected in to  your environment.  Users will be able to use touch and voice commands to interact with the holograms. You can watch the endless possibilities in this video

Wearable computing

The Immersive education conference is a conference where many experts address the development and effects of new technologies. Immersion 2015 will be held in Paris, France. The dates and venues for Immersion 2015 are not yet determined but will be announced in March. You can learn more here at http://summit.immersiveeducation.org. Wearable computing will be one of the forms of immersive education technologies covered at the conference.

Wearable computing is any electronic device that can be worn by a person. It is usually worn for convenience, and has the ability to process and store data. It can be integrated in clothing or with accessories for instance glasses or watches. Wearable computing just recently started to become more popular and commercialized.

Some examples of wearable computing devices are Google Glass, Apple Watch, and activity monitors. The Fitbit is one example of a wearable activity monitor. It is capable of tracking sleep, amount of steps taken, amount of calories burned, and distance traveled. The Fitbit gathers and stores this data then uploads it to an online profile.

The technology that the Fitbit relies on is it three-dimensional accelerometer system. This system tracks the accelerations of the person wearing the device. The system then relies on an algerithem to turn that information into the amount of calories burned and the distance covered. The sleep tracker simply tracks the movements during sleep.

The Apple watch is another new development in wearable computing. This new technology allows a person to have their watch act as their smart phone. It has the capability of a cellphone and a fitness tracker. The watch has yet to be released but apple has promised to release it in early 2015.

The watch will connect to the users iPhone. This means when the user opens up an app on their watch, it uses WatchKit extensions, which connects the phone's app with the watch. The watch will use touch screen technologies to navigate through apps and messages. The watch will also send push notifications when the user receives messages or has reminders set.

Google Glass is another new form of wearable technology. This product was developed to provide a hands free smart phone by using an optical head-mounted display. You can learn more about Google glass here:

Some issues that developers are still working on these wearable devices are battery life, waterproofing, and software updates. These issues and new developments for wearable technology will be cover at Immersion 2015.

3D printing

The Immersive education conference is a conference where many experts address the development and effects of new technologies. Immersion 2015 will be held in Paris, France. The dates and venues for Immersion 2015 are not yet determined but will be announced in March. You can learn more here at http://summit.immersiveeducation.org. 3D printing will be one of the forms of immersive education technologies covered at the conference.

Most of us have used a regular 2D printer to print out flat pages of text or pictures. 3D printing uses new technology in order to create a physical 3D object from a 3D digital model. This three dimensional digital model is usual constructed on a computer. 3D printers can create many different products made out of many different materials.

Some of the hardware systems the 3D printing relies on are scanners, computers, software systems and the 3D printer itself. First, you can use a scanner, which will create a 3D digital copy of the object you want to create. You can also create a virtual design of the object you want to create using 3D computer software. These 3D digital replicas can then be created using a 3D printer.

The software then creates the object into a printable model by slicing it into different layers. The 3D printer then prints out each layer using what ever material you would like. There are also printers that can carve out a 3D object. These printers can create anything, including human body parts and guns there are no limits

Bio-printing is one of the types of 3D printing that exists today. Scientist use a 3D printer to create replicas of body parts made out of bio-ink. Bio-ink is a mixture of bio gradable gel and human cells. Patients can use their own so they would no longer have to fear rejection of the transplanted organ. This new technology has great potential in the medical field, especially when it comes to patients on transplant lists. The first few minutes of this video will explain more:

Three dimensional printing has been in development since the 1980's. Now, the 3D printer is becoming more available to the average person. There are personal 3D printer available online and in stores. You can even buy them at home depot and some are even under 1,000 dollars.

The possibilities for 3D printing is endless. If you can think it you can print it: food, organs, weapons, and tools are only some of the possibilities. 3D printing is becoming more advanced and precise. You can learn more about the newest developments of  3D printing at Immersion 2015.

Class 6 assignment 9

We read an article called The Distributed Self: Virtual Worlds and the Future of Human Identity. This article brought up some intersting ideas and points about the human self. The two main ideas that this article covered was the idea that the human identity changes along with the developments of technology. the second idea is that the new developments of 3D worlds will completely change the idea of the human self and our identities. Some interesting points that were brought up were the idea of cloning, the reconsideration of mind and body dualism, and artificial intelligence.
This relates to the identity mapping project that we did earlier because we identify with the identities we have created on multiple online formats, creating a multiple self. It creates a whole virtual identity of ourselves on different formats, according to our desires.
